The Norwegian Cancer Society, in cooperation with American Cancer Society, arranged its first "Stafett for Livet" / "Relay for Life" in Norway's Randaberg 23 and 24th September 2017. A total of 1400 participants across 40 teams participated in the 24-hour fundraising event where team members take turns walking around a track or designated path. To signify that cancer never sleeps, each team member is asked to have a member on the track at all times. Teams were also invited to set up a campsite at the event and continue their fundraising efforts by collecting donations for activities, food or other goods.

The Relay for Life event is the world's largest not-for-profit event with 3.6 million participants and staff and volunteers in more than 5 200 communities in 28 countries, with over 700 000 cancer survivors and people currently affected by cancer. Relay aims to bring communities together to remember loved ones lost and honour survivors of all cancers.

ECC supported the event by providing a map overview of the area, which pinpointed the different track/routes, campsites, areas allocated for parking and other points of interest. The map was published on https://kreftforeningen.no/stafettforlivet/ and was available for all participants and volunteers involved with or affected by the event. The Norwegian Cancer Society plans on expanding the Stafett for Livet – Relay for Life to many other Norwegian cities in 2018.

ECC is proud to have supported such a well-organized and humanitarian event!
